March VIDA! Recap: Sleep and Emotional Wellbeing

The month of March for VIDA! Health and Wellness was jammed packed! The VIDA! families in South LA, Watts, and Boyle Heights learned about both sleep and emotional wellbeing, and were treated to our Gasol Foundation healthy fruits and vegetables booth at the PFLAS resource fair!

The VIDA! families took a trip to the Healthy Galaxy and visited 2 planets while there: Sleep Quality and Emotional Wellbeing. Both of these healthy habits are crucial when it comes to our overall health. Did you know that children ages 6 to 13 should be getting between 9 and 11 hours of sleep each night? Or that practicing good emotional health involves both recognizing our emotions and expressing them? Did you know that sleep can also be connected to our emotional health? For example, if you do not get enough sleep, the lack of rest can affect your mood. In fact, lack of proper sleep can cause you to stay indoors, watch TV, and eat unhealthy foods.

VIDA! Children Session

VIDA! Passports

The children’s session began with all the children receiving their official Gasol Foundation passports. These passports contained astronaut agreements full of healthy habits that they could read about! Once they had their passports, they were ready for takeoff!

Physical Activity Session

After the classroom session, it was time for Vida! children to get outside and get active! They played a variety of games pertaining to what they learned in the classroom, such as “Sleep Tag” and the “Running Emotions” game. So much fun!

Vida! Adult Session

In the adult session, the VIDA! parents also learned about the topics of sleep quality and emotional wellbeing. Through in-depth discussions, Q and A’s, and role- playing activities, our parents learned effective techniques to ensure their children achieve quality rest, establish healthy bedtime routines, and practice healthy habits for their emotional health and wellbeing.

Resource Fair

Gasol Foundation had our highly anticipated fruits and vegetables booth once again at this years resource fair. Families were able to stop by our booth and learn some healthy tips, take photos, and of course, grab some fresh produce!

Mission Accomplished!

As you can see, March VIDA! was so much fun. We hope that VIDA! families had a great time with us learning all about healthy habits. They will soon have to prepare for blastoff once again in April for our final VIDA! session of the year! See you soon!
